GO HARD OR GO HOME!!!!

What is Phishing?
Phishing is a way of using trustworthy people to obtain information like passwords, usernames and credit card details. these can be in the form of e-mails, notifications.
Examples of Phishing i have seen are notifications on my Facebook page saying that some people of my friends list had comment on my photo. When i clicked on the link to see what they had sent it sent a notification to all my friends saying i had commented on there photo, sending the notification to there friends when they clicked on it. And so it continues around to friends around the world.

Team E.6 Education and Semantic Aware Aplications

The NetGenEd project was very beneficial for me; the amount of new things I learnt was amazing, the things we did I never thought possible. We created a ning where we uploaded a picture of ourselfs and used as a home page for writing blog posts and  responding to disscusions, we made a wiki where we were  part of the group and added posts of what our group means, one hard part od doing this was that other people deleted some of our work which was hard at the start but it was all part of it. Making my video was a real challenge but one that worked out to be a good one.

We used numerous amounts of technology throughout this project. Including various internet sites including, google, a global search engine. Typealyzer, a semantic application that will search your brain activity. Semantic applications are different to the normal search engines like google or askin that it will search for the meaning of the words, so if you type in keywords it will find your search rather than other search engines that look up the words you searched for. The word semantic means ‘meaning of,’ the semantic of something is the meaning of something. The interesting part of learning about these applications is that I had never heard of these before and they will eventually overtake sites like google in the years to come. We also used phones, ipods, our blogs and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

A Semantic application is a global search engine that will search for the meaning of the word, not how the words that are put. Semantic aware applications will be used heavily within the next 5-10 years. Normal search engines like Google will take a lot longer to search for what you are looking for based on that if you word it wrong then google will not understand what you are asking of it. Whereas a semantic application will find the meaning of the word you type in and you will be able find what you need

I was not asked for an outsourced video but I was in some of the girls from Hawkesdale’s movies.

I did not request an outsourced video because by the time I decided what my movie was going to be about it was too late to request another student to do it, I used clips of one of the girls from Hawkesdale.

My initial idea for the movie was to have a cow walking across the paddock looking unwell, then the farmer would look up illness on the semantic web, I later found it physically impossible to do this because of the lack of time and having a video camera, going to a farm and filming a cow walking across the paddock. I faced many many challenges with my movie basically because I had no idea what to do but eventually I come up with the idea to have it about how the world is ever changing and how instead of doing the same old boring book work we could incorporate to use the web for school work and even much more than that. My movie wasn’t great but I think the massage it sent was the main part of it and I think I got that across ok. One thing I could have done to improve it would be spending more time finalizing the music and word slides. The movie I believe deserves recognition was made by Christina from the USA, her movie was created really well, the music she used was appropriate and having her voice behind it made it really effective, the graphics she used were really good and overall it was just a really good movie and it went for 3:26 and not once was it boring.

The most useful thing I have learnt from this project would be using new technology and working with students from all across the globe.

Hi my name is Hannah Torney from Hawkesdale P-12 College, from being involved in the NetGenEd Project I have learnt lots of new skills.

I faced many challenges throughout the project, my major one, being in the Semantic aware applications group and not knowing what this meant, with the help of our teacher, the internet and some research I was able to get around this problem.

The project was really beneficial in that I got to learn about the web and how it is changing and we got to talk to people from the other side of the world.

We used many different programs and web sites that we had not known existed before this project. I would recommend this project or any other global projects for anyone wanting to learn something new, and anyone of any age. I’d like to thank everyone involved in the project for everything they have done

Semantic-Aware Applications is going to be a huge part of our society in the coming years. The semantic web describes realtionships between things and the propeties of things. Like size, weight, age and price. See W3 schools If you now go to Google or Ask and type in ‘cow’ it will bring up search result for a cow. For example you will get thousands of results for the word, it may include nutrition, beef, dairy, facts, buying cows, selling sows, it may even pop up ads to sell drench or to buy the latest machine and heaps more. Search engines such as Google search for the word, not the meaning; you could end up searching 3 or 4 times before you get what you are looking for. Semantic aware applications allow search engines to pull information from various sites into one. This will be used a lot more in the next 4- 5 years.

I have just finished watching the keynote movie for NetGenEd. This movie was about the future and how the future is over taking education. Education is not keeping up with the future. My school (Hawkesdale P-12 College) is starting to keep up with some technology, We use the internet a lot but a huge percentage of our websites are blocked. Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, Google Images and many others, mainly because of the global content these sites contain. We are banned from using mobile phones but yet we can use ipods, mp3’s etc. The use of mobile phones in class I believe could be beneficial for the people who use the system properly and don’t abuse there rights.
This video was very eye catching; the students have put lots of thought into it. By saying the same thing over and over stapled the idea in our head and we remember it. The movie was fast, modern and the fact they had animations, it was catchy and very well done!

We were born into a society where technology was highly developed. The internet, TV’s, laptops, ipod’s, USB’s, DVD players, Mp3’s, microwaves, GPS systems, mobile phones, digital cameras, flip videos and so on are a huge part of our modern day life. We are not afraid to have a go, to figure out how to use something. We ‘fiddle’ until we can work it out and then we are able to teach others how to use it.

The youth of our community can relate to technology, we have had it since the day we were born; we have grown up with it. We are continuously upgrading technology (ipods, phones, computers) and learning about the latest computer or the latest internet site.

We use social networking sites such as facebook and myspace, MSN, not only do we use the internet and computers for home but now we are starting to use computers in class, this enables students who may not work as well by reading a book or watching a DVD to be able to learn in a different way.

The digital media I have grown up with are those of Facebook for connecting with friends, Google for research and as a search engine, Digital Camera to take picture so I can edit them and use them for various things, Flip Video to capture a special event, Mobile Phone to stay in touch with old and new friends and family, to carry contact numbers, to take pictures if I don’t have my camera, write notes, alarms, reminders, listen to music, GPS, internet, latest news, sport and weather reports etc. USB drives to transport my music, school work, pictures, Mp3 player for listening to music, looking at pictures. These are just some of the many many different digital media devices that I use.

The NetGenEd is our generation, we were born into technology, we grew up with it and it is a pretty large part of our lives. That’s why we are called the Net Generation!

My goals for 2009 are…

  1. To study hard and do well in ALL my subjects!
  2. To be organised and prepared for all classes!
  3. To make and find time to do homework (without brushing it off and doing it at the last min!)
  4. To enjoy school and have fun but also to get work done!
  5. To find myself a school based apprenticeship and work hard towards that!
